Well it’s been an eventful week here at mirus, with lots of lovely events taking place. Picking up on two of those events that are beautifully linked…

The beginning of the week saw me at a meeting with one of our wonderful speakers – Mr Scott Garrett. We enjoyed a conversation about life, the universe, and Waitrose customer service! Giving exceptional customer service is a matter of choice and attitude and some companies get it so very right. The end of my week saw me with clients Le Manoir aux Quat’ Saisons who not only get it right but exceed expectation.

For us, customer service is everything, and always has been. When you are in receipt of great service life flows that little bit better. When you are giving a great service life flows a huge amount better. When the John Lewis Partnership trains it’s staff they are taught to go the extra mile and it shows hugely both at John Lewis and Waitrose. As for Le Manoir they are in a league of their own.

Customer Service is the heartbeat of mirus media – don’t settle for less than best when booking your speaker. Work with a company that will go the extra mile for you too.

When should you book a celebrity or a speaker that is relatively not heard of in other words…

               Well there are two main issues here. That of audience demographic and that of budget.

                1. If you are keen to attract media attention

                2. If a celebrity will sell tickets to your event – put bums on seats

                3. If you want to make a wow! of an impact

                4. If you have a substantial budget

                5. If you want to build hype prior to your event

                Then a celebrity may be your best route!

However there are many fabulous speakers available, that don’t carry celebrity status, that will do the job for you with equal or better aplomb. Dedicated and professional with a fantastic sense of humour, Gabby Logan is one of the UK’s premier broadcasters.

A key member of the BBC’s presentation team for the London 2012 Olympics, Gabby presents a live daily show on Channel 5, LIVE with Gabby Logan, as well as Final Score, Inside Sport, the Six Nations and the Autumn Rugby Internationals for BBC One. She has presented the FIFA 2011 Women’s World Cup for BBC Three, Match of the Day, the One Show and was in South Africa in 2010 reporting on the England team for the FIFA 2010 World Cup.

A former international gymnast, Gabby began her broadcasting career in radio in 1992 and joined Sky Sports in 1996, where she quickly established herself as a football presenter. First joining ITV in 1998 to front On The Ball, during her nine years at the channel Gabby’s repertoire expanded and her presenting credits include the World Cup, Champions League and the Premiership, as well as the Boat Race and sports news reporting. In 2004 she co-hosted Sport Relief with Gary Lineker for the BBC, before joining the corporation in 2007.

Following various stints on the station, Gabby began presenting a regular weekly Sunday morning show on BBC Radio 5 Live in February 2008. From January 2010 to April 2011 she presented The Gabby Logan Show weekdays from 12pm – 2pm, which covered news and sport from across the UK as well as comprehensive analysis of Prime Minister’s Questions every Wednesday.

She is a columnist for The Times and has previously written for the Sunday Mirror, Independent and Yorkshire Post.

Currently a patron of the Disabilities Trust, Prince’s Trust and Great Ormond Street, Gabby is also a vice president of Sparks. She lives in London with her husband and two children.

Clare Balding is a freelance presenter, writer and broadcaster. She has worked in radio for 15 years and been a leading sports presenter on television since becoming the face of the BBC’s racing output in 1998. Since then, she has worked on four Olympic Games, three Paralympics and three Winter Olympics. Clare can turn her hand to any sport from horse racing to rugby league, swimming to golf or tennis. She is equally at home on radio or TV and is renowned for her versatility and reliability.

Clare has been part of BAFTA Award winning programmes, has been voted RTS Sports Presenter of the Year, Racing Journalist of the Year, has presented Sony Award winning programmes and been praised for ‘perfect presentation’ by the judges of the Broadcast Awards. She has a proven track record of creative input and practical effort in every programme on which she works.

She has presented Ramblings on Radio 4 since 1999 (a thrice yearly walking series) and in 2010 presented Britain By Bike on BBC4. She presented Crufts for the BBC and, from 2010, for More4.

Clare is an expert at live major event presentation, such as the Lord Mayor’s Show or Trooping the Colour, but she also has an uncanny knack of getting the most out of interview subjects as illustrated on Radio 4′s Saturday Live.

She is an experienced host of awards ceremonies, a lively and amusing after dinner speaker and an authoritative voiceover artist.

Tony is a TV and Radio comedian and best selling author.

Two of his books have been serialised on BBC Radio 4 – ‘Round Ireland with a Fridge’ and ‘Playing the Moldovans at Tennis’, which was short-listed for the Samuel Johnson Prize and the Bollinger Everyman Wodehouse Prize in 2000.

In 2009 Tony released a feature film version of his own book Round Ireland with a Fridge. He is currently working on a second feature film; an adaptation of his book Playing the Moldovans at Tennis.
